When You're in a Shit Show of Emotions

Stuck in a shit show of emotions?

Relax.
It'll be over soon.
But really, what can you do...?

I just want to bring you this reminder today: when in turbulence, try to relax.

Whenever I get to the other side of emotional upheavals, anxiety, fear, downward spirals... I always look back and wish I hadn't tried to so hard to find a solution while I was in the midst of the turmoil.

When you're inside of the emotional pain, emotional reactions, emotional chaos... that really isn't the time to go into problem solving mode.

No, friends. It's the time to love on ourselves. It's the time to QUIET our minds.
It's the best time to shut down as much of our excess energy as possible- clear your calendar, take a bath, treat yourself to anything that feels soothing.

The emotions are one thing... but it's our REACTION to them that really makes it suck. 

We HATE feeling like shit. We judge ourselves for our feelings. We blame ourselves, tell ourselves why we 'shouldn't' feel a certain way.  Or worse yet, maybe you scare the crap out of yourself when you're already anxious or worried by telling yourself horrible stories about how bad things will be in the future since you can't get it together right this second.

So, again, this is simply a reminder... emotions are energy. Let them move without grabbing onto them, fixating on them, obsessing over them. 

I know it feels like you have to figure everything out right now when you are feeling your worst, but doing whatever you can to relax, take the edge off, breathe and slow down (as hard as it can be) is really the path back to a state of balance and clarity.

As your mind clears and the emotional storm passes, you can find a new perspective and integrate from the experience.

And of course, reach out for help you need along the way.

Stuck in a shit show of emotions?

Relax.

It'll be over soon.

I know you want to change it, fix it, fight against it.

But consider...
You're swept up in a tornado-
So, what good will fighting do?

It will exhaust you. 

You can't think straight, let alone see 
A damn thing 
Clearly-
So what good will trying to think through things
Right now do, anyway?

On the other side of this spiraling chaos 
You'll have clarity.

Let it complete its spin.
It's just energy in motion.
Let your judgment of it go.
Let yourself be.

Close your eyes.
Breathe.
Let go.

Be with the movement of the energy.
Let it move.

Eventually you'll be tossed aside in a quiet place
and the skies will be clear
and you'll possess a knowing 
that you did not have before.

Your wisdom and awakening
Your peace and clarity
Come from this letting go

And letting yourself be shifted.
