Trauma: Healing the Body
One of my greatest passions is addressing how trauma lives in the body and how to treat the very roots of our emotional pain.
In order to do this, we have go beyond our mind and psyche.
We have to travel into the realm of the physical and the energetic.
I learned this for myself in my own personal healing work.
And it felt really, really, REALLY difficult. I felt alone, crazy, alienated.
In 2012 I discovered a history of past trauma IN my body. I found WHERE it had taken up residence.
And I did a lot of work to meet it, heal it and set it free.
That whole self-compassion, come home to the self thing I talk about all the time started here.
I learned how we can carry our emotional pain and trauma in our bodies...
and that we must work WITH the body in order to heal (and release) it.

Traumatic Memory‣‣ I'm putting this topic in this section because we often wind up remembering past traumas through a triggering physical experience we have. Or we learn our physical health problems are correlated to past psychological trauma.
‣‣ You may not remember the trauma(s) you've endured. But your body does. It can show up in a lot of different ways (dissociation, pain, anxiety, gut issues, etc.). I wouldn't have understood this until I worked through it myself and treated patients in similar experiences. ‣‣ I found a lot of peace when I read this article years ago: Why We Can't Remember |
The Body as Our Storyteller ‣‣ Your body holds your history. You can look to it for answers. This is an important (essential) part of healing from past trauma. This is how we come back home to ourselves and integrate.
‣‣ Here are some great books and leaders in field you can refer to: |

Body Reclamation + Feeling Safe‣‣ Part of our healing from past trauma can be about feeling safe again, being content in our bodies, feeling at home within ourselves.
‣‣ It may be helpful for you to explore my resources on self-worth and anxiety. ‣‣ If our body holds our pain, then we can use modalities that work WITH the body to support our healing. Some of my favorite and effective have been:
